MARTINSBURG - An overturned tractor-trailer just west of the Virginia line and east of Charles Town tied up traffic and shut down W.Va. 9 for five hours Friday morning. "It slid down the roadway a short distance and dumped its load on the roadway," said Cpl. K.W. Martin, a trooper with the West Virginia State Police, Bardane barracks.

A Caroline County man and an Appomattox teenager died as a result of separate wrecks on state highways yesterday morning, Virginia State Police said. Sylvester Anthony Freeman, 46, of Ruther Glen died at the scene of a wreck about 6:30 a.m. in Caroline, authorities said. Freeman was heading north on U.S. 301 near state Route 651 when his car went off the road and struck two trees.
